Benefit Adequacy of SNAP from Institute of Medicine

National Academies Institute of Medicine

2013

This report by the Institute of Medicine examines the evidence to define the adequacy of how SNAP benefits are allotted. They outline several factors to consider such as time of purchase, length it takes to prepare food, as well as the varying prices of medical and housing costs around the country. This report concludes that the above data points are not universals and therefore change how easy/difficult it is to live off of SNAP benefits.
