About Us

Essex County Council for Young Children (ECCYC) aims to create an environment where parents and families come together with providers and other community members as active partners to identify and discuss the issues that affect the health, education and safety of our children from pregnancy to 8 in Essex County as they relate to the needs, concerns, hopes, dreams and successes of our families.

Mission

The mission of the ECCYC is to work in collaboration with communities, parents and stakeholders, to establish a collective body whose primary focus is improving the education, health and safety of children and families.

Vision

To empower, advocate and effect change for families and children birth to eight through collaborative community engagement in Essex County, New Jersey.

Over 600 parent and stakeholder members who have participated in meetings, activities, testimonials, advocacy activities over the last 3 years including representatives from health care, providers, education and libraries.

Learning Community Goals and Strategic Priorities

During the learning community, the Essex County Council for Young Children is focusing on the following goals:

  1. Fostering true partnerships between families, parents, and community

  2. Establishing Newark as a trauma-informed, healing-centered early care and education city

 

During the learning community, the Essex County Council for Young Children is focusing on the following specific priorities:

  1. Identify, recruit and partner with key stakeholders that practice Trauma Informed Care and attend coalition meetings

  2. Train coalition members in the principals of Trauma Informed Care

  3. Identify and train 3-4 community champions for intense training
